1. Not building a niche
While building a list, the more general the optin email list demographics, the more difficult it takes to sell the list. For instance, if an individual builds an email list of animal lovers, it may include nature walkers, environmental activists, pet owners and people, who like to watch animal movies.
Therefore, it is important to either create multiple email marketing lists or tightly target the list, one for each animal loving category.
2. Not creating a relationship with the targeted email list
While first building an optin list, it is more about building a list and then, driving traffic to the list rather than having a thought about the people on the list. If a person subscribes people to the optin email list, but does not mail them for a couple of months even after the confirmation email, he may not know which person may likely unsubscribe.
Hence, it is important to build a relationship immediately through email marketing on the list, even if a person has only five subscribers on the optin list. This is where a good autoresponder comes into play.
3.Mailing the email list rather than the people on the list
Individuals have to think about themselves, as to how they may react when they receive emails. They have to treat their list, as it is a group of friends and not just email addresses.
4.Try to sell all the time
When in business, the main signature line of entrepreneurs is to sell hard in each e-mail campaign. Here, they can unsubscribe too. In addition, people who do not subscribe do not read the mail anyhow. Hence, it is important to give useful information to the subscribers on their emails. Occasionally, here individuals can send recommendation of the product that they personally use or know that, it may be useful to the readers. However, it is better to do it sparingly.
5.Not communicating with the list
It is better to ask questions and find out what they want to hear about. Send a survey to the email list. Inquire as to what their top five questions are for the niche that they are in. Based on how they reply in the survey, be sure that all questions are replied in the coming emails.
